A Nutritionist will provide scientific, evidence-based information and guidance about the impacts of food and nutrition on the health and wellbeing of humans.

Only registrants with the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN) can call themselves a Registered Nutritionist.  Entry to the voluntary register is only possible by completing a university-level honours-degree that meets the strict standards of professional education in nutrition, accredited by the Association for Nutrition (AFN). Registrants are also required to keep up-to-date with the latest scientific research through Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Treatment is based around the client’s individual lifestyle, whereby the Nutritionist uses their scientific background to assess the client’s diet and lifestyle in order to develop tailored nutritional advice. Nutritionist’s promote good health by helping to facilitate a positive change in food choice. Nutritionists are educated in Nutrition Science, Public Health, Sports and Exercise, Food Matrix, Healthcare-medical while acquiring the correct knowledge in Physiology, Immunology, Pathophysiology and Psychology. Clients of all ages can benefit from Nutritional and lifestyle advice

Nutritionists do not diagnose illness or prescribe medication. If they believe there is an underlining medical condition, for example Coeliac Disease, they will refer you to your GP for a diagnosis. Nutritionists can however recommend Public Health England and NHS approved supplements.
