Today is World Vegan Day. I made a shift to a mostly whole food plant-based diet in January 2017. I was co-hosting a retreat in Miami and my job as an osteopath was heading up physical wellness. My co host is an LA based nutritionist (and BFF Sophie) and she took care of what we all ate. The retreat menu was whole food plant based.
I ate whole food plant based for my two weeks in Miami and returned to the UK in a cold January feeling great. It really was the easiest thing to carry on eating a whole food plant-based diet given the transformation in how I felt. I’m talking an energy level I hadn’t experienced since becoming a mum, starting my own business blar blar…..
So what is a whole food plant based diet?
A whole-foods, plant-based diet is a way of eating that celebrates plant foods and cuts out unhealthy items like added sugars and refined grains.
Plant-based diets have been linked to a number of health benefits, including reducing your risk of heart disease, certain cancers, obesity, diabetes and cognitive decline.
Plus, transitioning to a more plant-based diet is an excellent choice for the planet.
Regardless of the type of whole-food plant-based diet you choose, adopting this way of eating is sure to boost your health.
For me the greatest benefit was increased energy levels. Other practical benefits my wellness clients report include the lowered food bills (meat, fish and diary are expensive) and worrying about body weight creeping up becomes a thing of the past. Yep a whole food plant-based diet is a sure way to lose unwanted pounds.
